Channel Eye is a Sri Lankan youth and sports channel operated by the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC). Launched in April 1999 initially as Rupavahini 2 and rebranded in 2000, the channel’s name reflects its focus on three pillars: Education, Youth, and Entertainment. Channel Eye primarily broadcasts sports programming including international and local events, with a special emphasis on cricket and motor car racing. It has been the official broadcaster of major tournaments such as the Cricket World Cup and Rugby World Cup, as well as FIFA World Cup events in Sri Lanka.
Besides sports, Channel Eye produces and airs a variety of original English-language programs catering to younger audiences. These include live morning shows, music programmes, documentaries from sources like the BBC and Discovery Channel, and discussions that appeal to English-speaking Sri Lankans. Over the years, it has supported new and young producers to create innovative content, including music and cultural shows such as “Sunday Spice” and “Café Classics.”
The channel balances its role as a sports broadcaster with an educational and entertainment mandate, positioning itself as a vibrant choice for youth and sports enthusiasts in Sri Lanka. It has also experienced organizational changes recently, with efforts to lease airtime for enhanced sports coverage while maintaining its identity within the SLRC network. Channel Eye is accessible through terrestrial transmission and caters to a diverse, predominantly English-speaking urban audience looking for a mix of sports, cultural, and educational content.
