About this channel

Swarnavahini is a prominent Sinhala-language general entertainment and news television channel in Sri Lanka, owned by EAP Broadcasting Company, a subsidiary of EAP Holdings. The channel originally launched in 1994 as ETV (Extra Terrestrial Vision), one of the first privately owned TV channels in the country. It was rebranded as Swarnavahini, meaning “Golden Channel,” on March 16, 1997, shifting its focus to mass-market Sinhala programming.

Swarnavahini provides diverse content that includes popular teledramas, reality shows, talk shows, news segments, and morning programs, with a strong emphasis on delivering local culture and values. It gained widespread recognition with its flagship news bulletin “Live at 8” and popular programs like “Mul Pituwa.” The channel is available on multiple platforms including Dialog TV, Dish TV, Lanka Broadband Networks, and PEO TV, ensuring broad accessibility across Sri Lanka.

Swarnavahini has a reputation for quality programming that appeals to Sinhala-speaking audiences seeking a mix of entertainment, news, and cultural content. It has faced ownership changes and financial challenges over the years, but remains a key player in the Sri Lankan broadcast media landscape, embracing its identity under the theme “Sri Lankeeya Abhimanaya” (Sri Lankan Pride).
